Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to submit a BBRA form?

To submit a BBRA, you will need:

  • The defendant's full legal name and year of birth
  • Case number or arrest report number
  • Arrest date and charges
  • Bail amount (provided by the court or the defendant)
  • Court date and time for the next scheduled appearance
  • Your full name, address, phone, email, and last 4 digits of your SSN
What if I don't have the case number or state ID?

If you do not have the case number or arrest report number, please contact the court staff at OnlineBailClerk.1DC@courts.hawaii.gov for assistance. Staff can help you locate the correct case information.

How long does the process take?

The online bail posting process is available Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Hawaii Standard Time). Once you submit your BBRA form, court staff and the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR) will review your submission. Court staff will review within 60 minutes. If approved, you will receive an invoice to make payment. We recommend starting the process as early as possible, ideally by 9:00 AM.

What payment methods are accepted?

We currently accept debit cards only. Credit cards are not accepted at this time. Debit card payments are processed immediately. To pay with cash or money order, you must visit the courthouse in person during normal business hours.

What happens after I pay?

After successful payment, you will see a confirmation screen with a digital receipt that you can download as a PDF or print. Save your receipt before closing the page. You must then bring the completed BBRA form and payment receipt to the correctional facility in person for the release to be processed. Please note that release processing at the facility may take several hours.

Can bail be paid on behalf of someone else?

Yes. Family members or friends can post bail for a defendant. The person posting bail must provide their own identifying information and may forfeit the bail if the defendant does not appear in court.

What if my BBRA form is rejected?

If your BBRA is rejected, use "Check Status" to see why. Common reasons include incorrect bail amounts or case numbers. You can submit a corrected BBRA during the open window.
